            Boston, MA:  McGraw-Hill.

Catalog Course Description:  “Introduction to  television and radio station equipment and pre-production elements
necessary to produce a television show.  Prerequisite:  COMM 2105.”

Course Objective:  The student should gain a better awareness and understanding of basic radio and television studio
techniques, including pre-production planning, directing, and other positions.

Grading:                      Exam I                                               15 percent
                                    Exam II                                              15 percent
                                    Project One                                        15 percent
                                    Project Two                                        20 percent
                                    Project Three                                      25 percent
                                    Professionalism (Includes attendance)  10 percent

Grade Scale:  A = 90 to 100 points, B = 80 to 89, C = 70 to 79, D = 60 to 69, F = 59 and Below

Projects:  These will be explained orally and in handouts.  Each student will serve as a director two times, taking responsibility
for writing scripts, planning camera shots, and directing the project to completion.  Each student, when not directing, will
work on every project for the other students in the class.

Equipment and Talent Skills:  We will work with rotating crews, giving each student a chance to work in all the technical
aspects of a production.  Each crew position will be assigned, and students without a place on any assignment will be
part of a talent pool.  Or, you may only observe during that project.  When the projects are completed, each student will
have manned each station at least once.  Crew positions are:  technical director (switcher), floor manager, camera
operators, cue cards, audio, video tape, talent, gaffers, grips, etc.

Attendance Policy:  Each two tardies (includes being late to class and leaving class early) will count as one absence.  You
will be assigned a project time in advance.  When your time comes, you must complete the project or forfeit the grade
with zero.  Students attending all class meetings on time will have little chance of failure.  One absence will not be
penalized unless a project or test is missed.  Because each class is roughly equivalent to one half week’s classes, two
total absences will result in a 10 point final grade penalty.  More than four total absences and you will fail the class
promptly!  In the real world you would have been fired for the first one.  All phones, beepers, radios, etc. must be turned
off before class begins and they will remain off throughout class.  No headphones will be allowed during class.
