Counts for 10% of Final Course Grade
Throughout the semester, you are required to engage in critical
thinking about what we discuss in class and what you read about
in the book. The purpose of this assignment is to get you to
think critically about your interpersonal communication practices.
This
assignment will be graded more meticulously than Interpersonal Report
I.
Requirements
1. Due Monday, April 13,
2009, at the beginning of the class
session.
After class is called to order,
I will
take your reports as your name is called on the class roll. No
late assignments or excuses are
accepted!
2. Type or word-process and
double-space the assignment. For the text of your paper, use 2-3
sheets of 8.5 by 11
inch
white paper only. Do not continue to a fourth page for
your text, but a fourth page may be used for your source page
(works cited
must employ APA, MLA, or other acceptable style manual). At least
the first two pages must be full –
not
one-and-a-half-pages, not one-and-a-quarter-pages, etc. Use
one-inch margins on the left and right sides and top/bottom.
Use Courier 10
CPI or Times Roman 12 point font. No title pages or folders
are allowed on this assignment. DO NOT
fold or staple
them together. Failure to follow the instructions will result in
a letter grade penalty for each infraction.
3. Put your full name,
paper title, and date in upper left corner and number each page in the
upper right corner.
For example:

Interpersonal Report II
April 13, 2009
4. Poor grammar,
spelling, appearance, failure to follow procedures, etc. will result in
a lowered grade.
5. Directions for
content: Write this as a
research paper. It is not an essay or narrative. We
will have discussed significantly more
material
than we did prior
to
the first paper. Using
some of the terminology you have learned so far in class (as well as
library research detailed below),
explain
your own interaction in an interpersonal relationship you have with
a family member. Note that this is ONE family
member, such as your sibling, a parent, etc. It is not about your
entire family. Each paper should fully explain the interpersonal
communication concept
(terms)
that you are discussing and
what you think about the concept (term).
Please focus on the following:
Conduct library research on family communication,
relationships,
conflict, and/or power and use at least three
sources for your
paper. Neither the family member in question nor any other family
member will count as a source.
-- At
least two of the sources must be non-Internet sources. Articles
and books books found through Galileo are not Internet sources.
Textbooks
for this class, your sociology class, a dictionary, the Bible, etc.
cannot be among
the three main sources used and cited.
Wikipedia
will not be accepted as a source.
-- The
sources must be on a separate page at the end of your report, but they
will not count as part of the
2-3 page minimum/maximum. In other
words, you can use a fourth page only for the reference
page.
-- The
sources will be integrated into your research
paper as you address the areas
listed below.
Identify examples of good
communication practices you use with your family member.
Identify some examples of
poor communication you have employed with your family
member.
How can you improve?
