RESEARCH STUDY
A research study entitled
“Developing Methods for Assessing Gene-Behavior Interaction” is now
available for participation. Participation in this study will
involve answering a survey. The purpose of the study is to create a
scale to measure attitudes about the relationship of genes
and behavior on health. It should take about 45 minutes. This study is
open to all students 18 years and older currently
enrolled in SPCM1100, SPCM1500, or other SPCM courses that allow for
research participation. Participation
qualifies for the research familiarization requirement for basic speech
courses. For more information about this study
contact the principal investigator, Dr. Celeste M. Condit at 542-7863
or ccondit@uga.edu. You can sign up for this study on
the bulletin board outside the SPCM main office in Terrell Hall. If the
study sheet is full, please do not write your name on
the sheet. You may, however, show up at the designated time and place
and participate in the study if there are “no
shows.” There is no need to contact the investigator to arrange a place
on a waiting list. The office staff in Room 110 will
not have information about any studies.
This study will be offered at the
following times: Session

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING FROM THE
SPCM SECRETARY. IT IS EXACTLY WHAT I TOLD YOU GUYS
ABOUT ON WEDNESDAY -- SO I HOPE THAT NONE OF YOU ARE
GUILTY OF THIS:
Today has been a hectic day for
the front office directing students where to sign up for research
projects. I have quizzed some of them about
the directions they have been given and most all of them have been told
to come to Terrell Hall and ask
the front office where to sign up. Please do not tell your students to
come to the front office, but give them
better directions in finding the bulletin board (look for the PINK
signs). (1) Also, the front office does
not have anything to do with research, and therefore cannot answer their questions about the
projects. I am getting an awful lot of unnecessary questions that
I cannot answer. Please ask them if they have
questions to come to you with their questions. (2) Also, please ask them to make
good notes about dates, times and location of these projects, the front office does not know
where to direct them and if they forget where to go it may mean they miss the project. When
the sheets are taken down we have no idea where to send them. (3) Students are also very
confused about research and what it is for, and I don't know what to
tell them other than it's required for
the course. It would help if sometime during discussion of
research projects to make the reasoning
process more clear to them so they will understand what to expect. I would really appreciate your
help in relieving some of the unnecessary traffic for the front
office. I know I can count on you all. Monday,

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY POSTED
This research opportunity involves
completing a series of questionnaires about your experiences with social networking
sites such as Facebook and Myspace. The questionnaires should take no longer than 45 minutes to
complete. Any student 17 years or older and enrolled in SPCM 1100, 1500, or any other SPCM class
offering research opportunity credit is eligible to participate.
The purpose of this research
project is to help beginning researchers learn more about how to design research studies,
construct questionnaire items, and to analyze the data from the
questionnaires. The information generated will not be
used for academic research or publication. All information obtained
will be treated confidentially. If you have any
